The Most Fuel-Efficient SUV on Earth
Despite the increased number of hybrid models being introduced, the Mariner continues to be one of the few small SUVs offered as a hybrid. For the 2008 model year the Mariner was significantly updated with a new look. The changes included a new seats, headlights, taillights, a new liftgate, a higher beltline and new doors and wheels. The interior was also significantly updated with higher quality materials and more refined features.
With its gas engine and electric motors working in concert, the Mercury Mariner Hybrid feels nearly as quick as the gasoline V6 model and returns outstanding fuel mileage. The four-door Mercury Mariner Hybrid is available in one well-equipped trim level in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD). All Mercury Mariner Hybrids are powered by a 2.3-liter gasoline engine working with electric motor/generators for a cumulative output of 155 horsepower. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims. All-wheel-drive Mariner Hybrids have an additional electric motor that provides power to the rear wheels when extra traction or acceleration is needed.
